About social work

Social work is a practice-based profession that works to promote social change and help vulnerable people and communities address challenges such as inequality, discrimination, violence and other types of oppression. Commit to advocating for individuals, families and communities and help improve their lives. Focus on social justice, human rights and making a real impact in the community. Our graduates are compassionate, competent and value-driven with the ability to create possibility.

Ethical focus

A strong ethical foundation underpins our social work degrees. Educators employ a critical and analytical approach that supports you to evaluate dilemmas and make informed practice decisions guided by ethical decision-making frameworks.

Put your learning into practice

Work closely with local, urban and rural communities throughout your degree. Take advantage of a range of experiences and put the knowledge and skills you’re learning into practice by working with people in their communities.

Graduate work ready

Our social work courses prepare you to be work ready. With a total of 1,000 hours of supervised field education, you will have opportunities to observe, question and model social work behaviours and apply knowledge drawn from your study. Field education is a core element of the program and a major part of your professional identity development.

Flexibility in postgraduate study

Study a Master of Social Work (Qualifying) face-to-face in a supportive and interactive classroom environment at our Canberra or Strathfield campuses. Or enrol in our newly developed, online master’s program (with short, in-person intensives). This offers you the flexibility to study around your other commitments.
